The Voice, Jones Beach, & More!

Hi there!

First of all, I am really sorry for leaving you all hanging after my audition, but there was good reason.

Before anything else, I want you to know how much your pre-audition encouragement meant to me. You guys provided me with courage that I did not even know I had to do something that I did not even know I could do. The potential for rejection - in any situation – is scary, and because of you all, I was able to face it head-on with confidence and hope. Aside from that, knowing that people actually care about what I do means absolutely everything. I have come a long way in the year and a half since my solo music career began. I never thought that I would achieve so much before my eighteenth birthday, and I see that as an exciting indication of all of the amazing things yet to come.

I guess the best way to catch you up-to-speed with my career is chronologically. The support that you guys provided to get me on the Warped Tour lineup was amazing, but this year, it just was not meant to be for us. However, that all worked out for the best; instead of being at Warped, I got to spend that time with the people that I love the most welcoming a new addition to the family – my nephew, AJ!

Next, I got the incredible opportunity to perform at Jones Beach in Wantagh, NY, at the side stage for a show with Train, The Script, and Gavin DeGraw! That was an incredible experience. The show was just about sold out, and the venue seats roughly 15,000 people. I hit the stage for an hour right after doors opened, and I am pleased to say that I had a great time performing for and meeting with new Millertary soldiers. That day was one of those fantastic instances in which everything works out perfectly, and I am so stoked about that. I am hoping to be performing at Jones Beach again really soon.

Finally, the piece of news I am sure you have all been waiting for: the outcome of my audition for The Voice. I am not allowed to say much about the experience. What I can say, though, is that I ALMOST got a callback. In fact, I almost got a LITERAL callback. After the audition, I was told to keep my phone on me - that they would “marinate” in what I had done and would get back to me if they wanted to see me again. Unfortunately, I did not hear back. However, after sitting in line with thousands and thousands of talented people for hours, I am really just grateful to have been considered for the show after my audition. Being considered for a callback gave me a certain sense of validation that I am on the right track, which gave me the push to continue on that track with even more velocity than before. The audition was honestly a very pleasant experience.

So now we are left with a question: What comes next? It is time for me to go to the next step. Time to bring my music and myself to a whole new level that, before these aforementioned experiences, I was too afraid to explore. Right this very second, the Millertary is at a beautiful new beginning.

Production on my next album has just begun, and I am going to be keeping you guys in the loop on the “news” section of my website (www.rachelmillermusic.com) every now and then! Be sure to check it out!

Rachel
